The Santa Cruz Sentinel did a feature on our sustainable silvertip christmas trees! Article Excerpt: “When it comes to Christmas trees, there’s one variety that DIG Gardens owner Cara Meyers knows her customers can lean on. The Santa Cruz merchant expects to be featured in the December issue of Sunset for her precut silvertips, one of five precut varieties sold at the Water Street store. The evergreen firs, which get their name because of their metallic-looking foliage, also boast strong, openly spaced branches that lend themselves well to heavier ornaments.” Click here to read full article.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel covered our participation in Sunset Magazine’s 2011 Sunset Celebration Weekend. Article Excerpt: “The Cargotecture home is uber contemporary and modern,” said Meyers, who pens the Get Growing column for the Sentinel. “Trying to mix the urban farm aspect with a really contemporary look was definitely a challenge. But that’s essentially DIG; we’re a really contemporary store that teaches urban homesteading. We’re a good fit for the ‘Make It Your Own’ feel that Sunset is trying to create.” Click here to read full article.

Our Wolly Pockets, terrariums and concrete tables were featured in a recent Home & Garden article on SantaCruz.com. Article Excerpt: “On The Wall In the handful of years that it’s been open, DIG Gardens has established itself as Santa Cruz’s headquarters for vertical gardening. Besides providing beautiful design possibilities, the forward-thinking concept melds nicely with a low-carbon future in which cities build up, not out, and urbanites garden anyway—on their walls. Owner Cara Meyers has introduced us to Woolly Pockets (around $40), wall-hanging pouches that hold enough soil for an artful array of plants. The store also carries terrariums like the Recycled Tear Drop ($59) and holds workshops on making spectacular vertical succulent pictures, pretty much the definition of living art (the next one is Sept. 3). These and many more innovations exploring the art of flora are on display

Article Excerpt: “While in the San Francisco Bay area this last spring for a flower and garden show, I had the best day hanging out with my gal pal Laura Schaub at DIG Gardens in Santa Cruz. Laura works at this jewel of a garden shop on the weekends, and as it happened, our friend Debra Lee Baldwin was giving a succulent potting demo that afternoon with our other friend Rebecca Sweet in tow. This day was part friend reunion, shop work and awesome workshop–don’t think you can get better than that! We had to brave monsoon-level rains in the morning, but that afternoon the flood waters had receded and we were ready to go!” Click here to read
