Heirloom Fruit Trees and Fruit Tree Care

Join us with the boys from Tierra Madre farm to learn about Heirloom Fruit Trees and general fruit tree care. Tierra Madre Farm is a small farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains dedicated to promoting and preserving the world’s fruit tree diversity. They will talk about the many delicious heirloom varieties available as well as general fruit tree care and success from pruning to fertilizing. $10 Fruit Trees will be available for purchase.

Terrariums: Mini Gardens Under Glass

A DIG favorite! This terrarium workshop will spark your creativity to design a one-of-a-kind inspiring terrarium. Choose from DIG’s wide selection of plants and from our numerous styles of glass vessels to create your garden. In this workshop. Jen Dumford, DIG’s Garden Manager, will share her knowledge of growing and maintaining terrariums- introducing you to the whimsical yet practical world of gardens under glass. Fee includes instruction from Jen and potting supplies (soil, charcoal,moss). You are welcome to bring your own glass vessel from home, too!

$20 Workshop fee does not include the cost of vessel and plant materials.

Spring Organic Vegetable Gardening and Seed Starting

DIY Hypertufa Pots

Hypertufa (pronounced hyper-toofa) is a man-made stone made from various aggregates bonded together with cement. It’s perfect for making long lasting garden containers. It looks like rock, can be cast into almost any shape, is environmentally friendly, very lightweight and can withstand harsh weather conditions. It is also fairly easy and fun to make. Join us with our concrete artisan Katrina King from 5 Feet from the Moon Concrete and Metal Designs for this hands on workshop on how to make your very own hypertufa pots. They make great homemade gifts in one of a kind shapes, sizes and colors! You will make 2 medium pots to take home with you! $60 includes instruction and all materials.




Air plant Care and Design

Join us with Laura Schuab while she talks about tillandsias aka air plants. Learn about all the cool things you can do with these exotic beauties. Because they need no soil, they can live in places (and on objects) few other plants can.

Laura will show you how to create living sculptures, vertical gardens, and miniature living worlds. You’ll also gain confidence in caring for these durable jungle dwellers. Cost $20, includes an air plant starter kit.

Orchids 101: Repotting and Reblooming

If you’ve ever struggled to make an orchid last, this workshop is for you. Join us for a demonstration on how to successfully care for orchids and help them rebloom. We will also demonstrate how to repot orchids, you may bring one, non-blooming orchid to the workshop for a hands on repotting demonstration.

Canning with European Weck Jars: Marmalade

Join Anna Cameron, a local jam making entrepreneur as she teaches us how to can while using in season, locally harvested ingredients. She will show you the step by step process of this tasty and wonderful craft. Learn to make your own jam, salsa or sauces at home in these two-hour demonstration classes. We cover:

* Materials and equipment.
* Canning steps involved, including sterilization, sealing and storage.
* Local foraging tips.
* Suggested books and resources
* Testing some of her latest seasonal recipes.

Anna forages wild and urban fruits in the area around Santa Cruz to make small-batch, low sugar jams under her Ladysmith Jams label. You will be able to take some of her lovely jam home with you! $40. Fee includes a 2 Hour Demonstration and a jar of jam. $40

Vertical Succulent Pictures
